The New Orleans Pelicans were established in 2002, known then as the New Orleans Hornets, until 2013, changing their name to the Pelicans. They currently play at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, which holds a maximum 16,867 people. The Pelicans have made the playoffs eight times since joining the NBA, winning a division title in 2008.
